Aware

October is breast cancer awareness month.  You can't miss the pink:  football players, baseball players, pins, yogurt tops, even Kohls changes its sign to a bright shade of pink.  Our family is all too aware that this month is about the pink.  So many people in our lives have been diagnosed with breast cancer: my mom, my grandma, both of Mark's grandmas, my friends Betsy and Megann....already too many people that I am close to have received this diagnosis. Last month, my sister-in-law, Kelly, was diagnosed with Stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. Wham!  It's like being hit by a truck.  It still seems like a dream to even write those words.  It still seemed like a dream when I went with Kelly to her wig fitting on Tuesday.  It still feels like a dream when I think that I will be going to her head shaving party next week.  We all wish we could wake up and this really be a dream.

BUT, there is hope and there is strength and there is laughter and Kelly has already shown herself to be the ultimate fighter.  There is no doubt in our minds that the word "survivor" will soon follow the words "breast cancer."  If anyone can do this, it is Kelly.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers as she continues her chemotherapy treatments over the next three months.

We love you, Kelly.

Stop the presses!

Have to mark this down in Kons family history.  Right before bedtime, Drew came and showed me a picture he had colored during library time at school.  I was very impressed that he had chosen more than one color and had also added additional details like fire.  Then he asked me, "can i go downstairs and finish coloring it?"  If you know Drew, you are aware that this NEVER happens.  Trying to get him to sit down and color is like asking him to cut off an appendage.  Even though he should have been getting into bed, I had to tell him "yes!"  So proud of him for taking the initiative to do this:

Blog abuse

Poor, poor, neglected blog.  I have not made an entry since May!!!  I have not changed the layout since February!!  I almost forgot where to find it on my bookmark page!!!

In my defense, my computer is really S-L-O-W.  Like, painfully SLOW!!!  Just trying to write this post without any pictures was a torturous process.  Probably time for to upgrade to a laptop but it ain't in the budget right now.

But, both boys will be in school this year so I may have some time to devote to this family diary once again.  And yes, I will go back and post some photos from Christmas 2012 (Shelley)....and Disney World....and, oh my, I may be stuck on this computer for hours, cursing it everytime I try to upload photos and it does.not.do.it!!!  The forthcoming summer post is going to be full of pics, not so much writing because, yep, I am lazy.  It was a fun summer though......

Big guy

I know I am not supposed to compare my kids but it is kind of fun to look back and see how Drew and Will compare, especially since I have had a suspicion for the last year that Drew is bigger than Will at this age.  After Drew's check-up today, I can confirm that I am right.  Here are Will's 5 year old stats:

5 year check-up update:
Height: 45 3/4 inches (95th percentile)

Weight: 50 lbs. (93rd percentile)

and here are Drew's stats:

Height:  47 inches
Weight:  54.5 lbs

The doctor told me this puts Drew over the 97th percentile.  I guess the almost size 1 shoe and the fact that he is wearing Will's summer clothes from the summer AFTER Will's first year of kindergarten NOW, I should have known.

Preschool graduate

We are so proud of Drew and how far he has come in the last two years.  Happy graduation day!!!!

Drew made a big production of receiving his certificate (did you ever doubt it???)

 That's a nicer smile

Family photo.  Definitely a thumbs up kind of day!

The big 5!

Happy 5th birthday to our Drew!  I can't quite get over the fact that my second little boy is already 5, almost graduated from preschool and ready to head off to kindergarten.  Drew really wanted subs for lunch so we ordered some Subway and headed over to mark's office to eat lunch with him in the GE cafeteria.  Drew felt very official since he was required to get a badge...that had his name on it!!

There is so much to say about my spirited little man.  I am pretty sure that when he wakes up in the morning he sits striaght up in bed and proclaims, "time to go"  (I have yet to witness this since when he wakes up...sometimes before 6am... I am still sleeping).  What i love most about Drew (and what probably exasperates me the most) is how excited he is for life.  Everything can be seen as silly but this kid has a big heart.  He is wonderfully made.  We love you!!!!
